The Project:
The AscentCommunityProjects
Framework(ACPF) is a GNU/GPL licensed
project dedicated in building a gaming
and development community platform for
the widely used WoW server emulator
AscentEmu. The main focus of this
project is to close the gap between the
private server player communities and
the script and addon developers by
setting up a platform with a private WoW
gaming front-end run through a
development back-end.
Developers can register with us and
connect their ascent-world server with
our logonserver. Eventually this will
result in a big ingame realmlist with
high connectivity, since other realms
will stay online while some might be
down for maintainance. The world and
character databases are stored on the
dedicated machines of the realm owners,
thus giving them full control over their
work and securing it from other realm
owners. The logonserver is patched to
seperate all account management so GM's
on one realm will not automatically have
GM permissions on other realms.
The gaming front-end would be managed
through dark-portal.net and the
development back-end through the ACPF
website. Realm-owner functionality will
be enabled by setting an owner flag on
the user account of dark-portal, which
results in the display of additional
menus and modules. Players will only
have to register once on this website to
have full ingame access to all realms.
For the dev's:
The entire development back-end is
centralized in one private SVN server.
This server holds the trunk data of all
the teams' work. There will be a
fileserver with a nice website frontend
for all the release data. The machine
running the SVN has 90GB free space...
there is a spare machine with another
600GB of free space if needed. There
could be a set of dedicated testing
realms for all the current trunk stuff
to run on and other realms running the
stable releases. Players could decide
what to play on - new stuff with some
dc's or stable stuff with hardly any
dc's.
Realm-owners:
The advantages for the realm owners are
the best. The have one bigass ressource
for all their Ascent needs. Everything
is ested on compatibility with
everything else in the project, thus
resulting in
download->compile->relax. There is
a huge ommunity site with forums and
lots of extra stuff waiting for your
players. Knowledge and experiances could
be shared, e.g. ompiling on linux, etc.
For players:
Players will be linked to the
dark-potal.net) site where they can
create one account for all reamls. If
one realm has DC or goes down for
maintainance, the others will still be
available. Plenty of realms with
different game types without having to
change the realmlist.wtf. Several
voice-chat applications such as
TeamSpeak, Mumble, Ventrilo, etc...
Seperate voice-chat servers could be set
up for lets say big guilds or such.
